Reversing the slash/question key to /?

Asked by ealthuis

On this computer the slash key beside the right shift
key has switched roles with the dash/underscore key beside the equals key which also has a different result?

Ubuntu 18.04LTS

Is this the case only in python, or also in other programs?

It is so no matter what I run. But it started of with the slash showing an e with French accent. This has been so for anumber of days, I shut down the computer each day.

If this is a problem for all application, why do you then ask this question in the area for questions with python?

If I look at the question that you have answered in the past, it seems to me that you are rolling a dice to decide into which area you are putting the question (a question for skype filed unter thunderbird, monitor problems put into the area for a GNU Privacy Guard program, etc.).

Can you use more care when selecting the area where you file the question?

And now for your problem:
I assume that the keyboard layout assignment on your system is wrong.
Which output do you receive for the commands

cat -n /etc/default/keyboard
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

"the above pc105 was not listed"

It does not help if you only tell us what's not there.

These are the listed keyboards for Dell, the Vostro. this computer, is not listed. the configuration file as shown above calls the keyboard pc105. I tried the generic Dell 101-key PC and that made no difference

Is your computer a Dell laptop? If your type is not shown in the list, then I recommend that you try other Dell laptop families.

Yes a Dell Vostro. I am starting to do each until I find the right on, the computer is 8 years old and maybe Dell has forgotten about it. BTW it works perfectly otherwise.
