New version of module

Asked by Mikkel Munch Mortensen

It's a bit unclear to me how newer versions of modules like this one find their way into the repositories.

So, my question is: Can I do anything to speed up that process?

The project owner just updated the module <https://github.com/tominsam/PythonDaap/commit/a52ee05471be295e66f350f2a0554f4f8fd1d52b> in response to a request (by me) to make it work with forked-daapd in Ubuntu <https://github.com/tominsam/PythonDaap/commit/a52ee05471be295e66f350f2a0554f4f8fd1d52b>.

Sorry for spamming. Second link should have been <https://github.com/tominsam/PythonDaap/issues/1>.

Also, I'd like to point out that by "speed up" I don't mean "get someone to act faster" but "if I can do anything about this myself" :)

Not too much I am afraid. There are not many canonical repository administrators to take care of packages individually.

If it is a clear-cut security patch, you might be able to file a security bug, complete with a patch against a specific ubuntu source package, and it will be prioritised over regular bugs.

However, the package has been orphaned by its maintainer in debian.

You could also install debian (eg on a virtual machine), then create a debian package, and go and ask a debian maintainer to upload the package for you (i.e. become the maintainer/co-maintainer, to some degree). This would be automatically picked up at the next ubuntu import cycle (every 6 months -- you may have just missed the last import freeze (its hard to find when this is... http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2011/11/11/ubuntu-12-04-development-update-3/ ?).

Can you help with this problem?
