What is the recommended way to create GUI applications for Ubuntu using python?

I want to learn to create applications that work on ubuntu and my favourite language is python.
I tried glade+pygtk and found it to be the least complicated but now with Gobject Introspection I am a confused.
Are there any tutorials, ebooks, 'for dummies' books or IDEs?
How does Ubuntu expect domestic users to create their own software?
What is the Ubuntu way? The recommended way?
