PulseAudio on 9.04 troubleshooting

Asked by John2

Hi all,

To solve a microphone problem on Skype, I installed PulseAudio server and the related applications.

Does it conflict with ALSA? As Pulseaudio seems to be the only one working with Skype so far (before installing it, nothing was coming out my microphone) I would like to keep it as default audio server.

Should I get rid of ALSA? How can I use PA as default?

Pulseaudio volume manager does not seem to work, because when I launch it from the menu the window opens and closes by itself. The rest of PA apps work. Any suggestions about how to solve this problem?

Thank you in advance.

In System --> Preferences --> Sound you have the option to set the default audio library you prefer.

On screen on the top, do you have the icon for volume control? If not you can add it by right clicking your mouse over the panel (on the right or on the left side) and choose Add to Panel ... option, and then Volume Control.

You don't need to remove ALSA if you don't have any problem with your sound card.

Good luck
