Sound problem when using multiple apps in Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by Sandy

Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 8.04. Whenever I use more than one application which needs to use the sound card ( say for example rhythm box and youtube site in firefox are open or skype) Now in such a scenario, other than the program using sound card other applications cannot use the sound card at all. This is very annoying because I have to close that application using the sound card so that other program can use the sound card. Can anyone tell me how do I resolve this problem?

I am using a HP laptop dv2911us, core2duo 1.83ghz, 3gb ram, intel graphics card, not sure of the sound card but the sound is working fine.

this is caused by pulseaudio.

open synaptic and install the package padevchooser. it will ask to install other programs just click mark, then apply to install them all.

when it is installed open the pulseaudio device chooser software under applications-sound and vision.

this will place a icon near the clock looking like a audio jack.

click this and select configure local, sound server and select the end tab on the right simutaneous output and tick the box for this.

then retry.

If using Pulseaudio you have some sound issue with sound apps for example with flash contents please read http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup and this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4928900

Hi. I installed the package padevchoose and now I can use multiple application using the sound card. However, there is still some problem with playing flash content in the browser. I will go through the 2 links you have sent and see whether it works out or not.

the links posted by marcobra should fix this problem i have only read the ubuntuforums.org link and it does a flash section in it. it is titled "Part B: Adobe Flash & PulseAudio Fix - i386 only (bug #192888 and bug #239182)"

Can you help with this problem?
