Audio playback in 10.10 skips ahead during playback

Asked by Scott Dunbar

I've upgraded an Ubuntu 10.04 x64 installation to 10.10. During the playback of audio it skips ahead very fast at probably 3-5 times normal speed. For just an instant the sound is ok then it skips ahead. This occurs with any music tool which makes me think that it's the underlying sound system (pulseaudio?). Ubuntu 10.04 worked perfectly.

My audio card is rather old - a Sound Blaster Live! (EMU10k1X) but it worked just fine in 10.04. I'm getting a ton of messages in the messages file:

Nov 12 12:33:08 gator pulseaudio[1684]: ratelimit.c: 99 events suppressed
Nov 12 12:33:13 gator pulseaudio[1684]: ratelimit.c: 105 events suppressed
Nov 12 12:33:18 gator pulseaudio[1684]: ratelimit.c: 103 events suppressed
Nov 12 12:33:23 gator pulseaudio[1684]: ratelimit.c: 103 events suppressed
Nov 12 12:33:28 gator pulseaudio[1684]: ratelimit.c: 106 events suppressed
Nov 12 12:33:33 gator pulseaudio[1684]: ratelimit.c: 101 events suppressed

Any ideas? The bug report has been totally ignored.

Well, I'm not getting any crashes per se but I'll look at the link provided to see if there are any work arounds. Since it worked in 10.04 and the most recent file in /etc/pulse is from March of 2010 I'm confused why I'd have to change this now.
