backport 0.18.1+ds-2 to bionic

Asked by Thomas Reith

Hi,
I'm forced to still run a lot of server with bionic and some with xenial.

I noticed, that e.g. node_cpu has been changed to node_cpu_seconds
starting with 0.16. The Grafana templates do not support both metrics
and it's not easy to work around this limitatiion.

Therefore, it would be nice to have an backport of > 0.16 to bionic (and xenial)

I've tried to install 0.18.1+ds-2 (focal) on bionic and it works. However,
it would be nice to have backport.

Greetings and Thanks for your good job from Germany

Thomas

For the process to request a backport please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

For a quick workaround you might be able to use a version from a PPA, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=prometheus-node-exporter for a list of potential candidates.

Hello Manfred,
thanks for your quick answer.

It's not a bug, bionic's 0.15 prometheus exporter works as expected.

It's an incompatibility between pre 0.16 and post 0.16, which leads
to problems monitoring focal, bionic and xenial in one grafana dashboard.

Perhaps creating two packages may help...

However, since the focal package works on bionic, I'll go on with it.
