Newbie question - Certain package(prometheus-nginx-exporter) is not available for Bionic

Hi Team,

There is this package - prometheus-nginx-exporter which is not availabe for bionic but exists for focal, groovy and hirsute. Is there some compatibility issue or something else.

That piece of software was introduced in Ubuntu only a year after the publication of Ubuntu bionic.

For a workaround you could try manually installing the version for focal on your bionic system.
This can work well, but may also fail with broken dependencies. I suggest that you just try.

it works with manual installation. I am not sure of the process of debian package management, but is it possible to host this package on Bionic as well.

Ubuntu's strategy does not only have "only limited package updates after publishing", but also "addition of new packages to an already-published release only in limited case".

You can try requesting a backport (see the link in the FAQ), or you can create a PPA of your own.
