If you report a bug stating the bug and security issues the new version resolves then it may be upgraded sooner rather than later.

Ubuntu is not a rolling release and stability is champion over getting new packages in so packages may not be updated much.

If there is a significant issue then a package will be updated.

This is especially true in the LTS releases.
