Need 9.04 pptp config

I have installed pptp-linux and the Microsoft pptp (cannot remember package name) on my Ubuntu 9.04 system. Upon trying the connection, it aborts so quickly with a modem hangup, I believe I either need hand configuration for a missing component. This is not a matter of negotiating with the remote site; I never get that far. Any documentation pointer ideas, additional packages to install, or other information would be appreciated.

Add the following key using gconf-editor where 24 is the appropriate number for your machine.

/system/networking/connections/24/vpn/refuse-eap

This problem still exists in 9.10
