Internet connection problem

Asked by MrsRLBrown on 2007-02-16

I have just installed Ubuntu and can not get the computer to log onto the internet. I read one of the troubleshooting tips and it said to go to APPLICATION----TERMINAL and then type in sudo pppoeconf. It starts running and then stops because it says "Sorry, I scanned 1 interface, but the Access Concentrator of your provider did not respond. Please check your network and modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe process which controls the modem." The ethernet cable is plugged into the computer properly. When I go to NETWORK SETTINGS it is recognizing that there is an active Ethernet connection.

Nevermind! My ISP support told me all I had to do was restart my modem everytime I plugged it in (I switch the internet connection between two computers)

Glad you got it to work, also you may want to look into getting a simple router which would allow you to connect both at the same time without having to switch the cable between the two and also without resetting your modem. An example would be
