How does UBUNTU connect to the "Internet."

Asked by Corwyn

Is another computer running windows required to get on the net. I know nothing about computers and networking and could not get an Ubuntu system in the past to get on the internet except by networking it through a windows computer that was linking up to the internet.

If your network manager is configured to use DHCP (and your router/modem is configured for DHCP), you can automatically connect to the Internet through your network.

So.. when you connect your network cable, you must see a annunce globe "connection done", automatically you can connect. If not be sure you have a dinamic ip, maybe you have a static ip to connect and you need to configure your network with a new protocole in connection settings.
If you have not any idea just call you internet company, they must have Ubuntu support to network settings.

same way as you are connecting to windows computer only you need to change the configuration as per connection....or you can refer the windows network configuration .....then make the changes in this (ubuntu ) Computer through network connections ie system>preferences>network connections>wired save the work and it will work if not then give a reboot.
