does powernap work in 32 bit Ubuntu 11.10?

I installed 32 bit version of Ubuntu 11.10 on an AMD Athlon. As Powernap is not a part of that distribution, I installed it via synaptic.
However, it does not seem to work after the install and reboot - despite log level 3 nothing is written into the log files, no action visible.
I ran Powernap successfully in the 64 bit version beforehand. anz recommendations to check?
