How do I download software into ubuntu?

Asked by adsidlc

I installed ubuntu using a cd from the Linux show in San Francisco last month. I could not locate POSTGRESQL on it. I have gone to POSTGRESQL website and found the program, but can't see how to download. I am a new Linux user, and used to downloading in Windows. Is downloading in Linux done in FTP, and if so how?
Thanks

Open a terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install postgresql
