Setting up mailboxes in postfix-dovecot

Asked by Mark Roberge

I am running server and have installed postfix-dovecot. I can telnet the ports and everything is fine. How do I setup the mailboxes. I have looked everywhere for this information and have had no luck. Looking for ideas on where to find this information. Thanks

You should make dovecot's mail location match the one in postfix. I don't know about your configuration but in my dovecot i have:

mail_location = mbox:/var/mail/non-in/%u:INBOX=/var/mail/%u

which is a mess because it defines a path for the inbox and a different path for all the other folders.
Since by default postfix should save the incoming emails in files like /var/mail/username (username is a place holder for the real user name).
The dovecot configuration line uses those files for inbox directories and the /var/mail/non-in/username directory for the other mail directories. Of course you must make sure that those directories are created before trying to use them.

Can you help with this problem?
