moved up to 12.04 from 11.04 now when I go to suspend, my machine switches itself back on, then off, then on , then off, etc, etc

Asked by Barrosa1

Always had problem with the occasional shutdown where the screen would go to the Ubuntu with the coloured dots underneath, then nothing just sit there for hours, had to hold the power button down to shut down. Hibernate didn't work either. But at least the Suspend worked. Now after moving up to 12.04 by updating from 11.04 to the4 next update, then the next I have problems with the suspend action in as much as it goes to suspend, then restarts, etc. As the shut down problem was only an occasional problem I can;'t say whether or not this is still a problem or not now. I believe that I had it when i had 9. something, but I upgraded by using a disc that time. I had hoped that there would be some means of resolution by this long term 12.04,Is there ?

Subsequent to my last update, after leaving it overnight, I have tried the suspend action again twice. Once again it had to be Powered off using the Power button, but this time it did not rapidly cycle on and off as previously , it just came back on after about 5 seconds. Tried it again soon after this, now I have a Permanent Problem in as much as after the second Power off using the Power Button I can No longer switch my desk top unit back on. Well I can but all I get is the Fans running, no power on Led on the Power Button, and no signal to the screen. It would appear that the use of the Power Button is not conducive to the well being of my new desk top unit. This is being sent using my old desk top unit powered by Windows XP, I shall leave the new unit powered by 12.04 for a period of time in case it is an overheat problem, I have also put a Beta copy from a magazine in to the New Unit and started with this in the tray ,but same result, Nada.
