Suspend Problem After Update

Asked by Daire Conley

Okay I used the update manager and now my suspend option doesn't function properly. The system goes into suspend and then when I try to bring the system out of suspend I get a login and then a black screen with some funky colors on the left side. Whats causing this and shall you help me fix this?

Should I not use the update manager? Is update manager not really an update manager? Everything seems to work fine with Ubuntu 11.10 until I use the update manager. Do you recommend I reformat and reinstall?

What is the make and model of the system?

I had the same problem.
Go to 'system settings' additional drivers'

You will see, after a short search, a list of drivers. The one I changed to was about third down (says recommended).
Download that from that page. It worked for me.

The make and model is an HP G72. Again it works fine until I installed the updates. And...the driver list doesn't recommend anything other than my networking driver and its already installed.

Sorry about that. I am no expert. I must have had a driver not suitable
for the update to 11.10, hence the 'recommended'. It certainly solved
the problem for me.
The Driver '173' may be the problem. Is there an 'update' to 173 in the
list? Might be worth a try. Remember you have to restart the computer
after downloading the Driver. If that does not work then you can go back
to the Driver you had.

According to:
http://www.amazon.com/HP-WQ666UA-ABA-G72-250US-17-3-Inch/dp/B003KN3J2A?tag=duckduckgo-d-20

It's an intel GPU. Are there any bugs reported for the system?

Can you help with this problem?
