gyachi won't install

Asked by Gary Mercado

hi,
i was reading this question about gyachi and tried to install it but failed.
from a website i found this command
i open terminal; sudo add-apt-repository ppa:baudm
                         sudo apt-get update
                         sudo apt-get install gyachi
result ? could not open lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock ; terminal could not open etc etc
lock / other process using it etc etc i can not remember all,,
no gyachi found.. something i forgot to install ?
i also tried synaptic pakg manager>settings>repositories>(apt line i type ppa:baudm) and click "add" button
then i click "reload"
no gyachi found..
oh ! i am still using 9.10, it works well on my hp compaq 510, no problem with any hardware, wi-fi, dvd, usb etc etc so i kinda hang on for awhile with 9.10 before i move to 10.04..

thanks in advance..

sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a

Will release the packages, make sure you have no updates running and close software centre BEFORE running this command

Thanks

hi
thanks for fast reply..
from terminal i typed.> sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a
then i typed password ( which is invisible )
the result was, something about avahi id that can not open etc etc, very long i forgot to copy but it is about avahi id..
then i exit terminal to close.
repeated the command mentioned and again i noticed my password when asked is no longer invinsible unlike before..
so i thought of repeating the process but this time i tried to separate the command,
first i typed sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock (then hit enter button)
then i typed sudo dpkg --configure -a (then hit enter button)
it asked for password, when i typed the password again no longer invincible
and is said "command not found"

should i separate the two commands or type it as it is shown , in one line ?
both seems not to work and i noticed change in password behaviour

thanks again

The command is to be run on one line as it is given.

Can you give the output of the command rather than a description.

Thanks

this is what i see from terminal after i hit enter.

gary@gary-laptop:~$ sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for gary:

Now please try...

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gyachi

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

hi Macro,

i did follow your instruction,
but my question m should i type command given in one line or separate,
i mean, sudo apt-get install update ( then password )
after update enter the next command..right ?
the first instruction was to type in one line but did not work,

below is what i got when i entered the magic sudo command.. ha ha ha

gary@gary-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get update
[sudo] password for gary:
