pm-utils will hibernate desktop PC but can't find config file

Asked by Brian Wright

I've had this problem since I first installed Ubuntu 9.4 but has persisted with Ubuntu 9.10 and now 10.4.

If my desktop PC is idle for a period of time the machine will automatically hibernate. I'm currently using Kubuntu but adjusting Powerdevil to use "always on" does not resolve the issue, the desktop will still hibernate after about 10 minutes of idle time. I have not been able to locate the appropriate configuration file since Powerdevil doesn't seem to resolve it.

The only workaround is to uninstall the pm-utils package.

Ideally, I want to configure the pm-utils so it will not hibernate the desktop when it's idle as this desktop is also a file/print server.

I can provide any additional information needed as I'm currently not at my desktop PC at this time.

It turns out that the sleepd daemon was running and was something that I had completely overlooked until I ran the system monitor. The solution is to either not have sleepd run on startup or to uninstall the sleepd package, the latter is what I did.
