Ubuntu 10.04 is not showing startup splash screen, how to make it working? I have tried startup manager with no output. Please help?

Asked by a.hargange

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is really awesome experience using the latest ubuntu 10.04 system and I have recommended ubuntu to more than 10 sales professionals who were tired of the virus problems on the windows systems. It's the experience of stability in work and peace in mind.

I have been using ubuntu 10.04 since three months. I am unable to see the splash screen and grub loader at startup, screen is always blank. I installed the startup manager application(gui based) but making changes in it did not reflect in desired output.

Please provide me detailed info(or link) about enabling the grub screen to choose and splash screen which shows that ubuntu is loading. I am able to do the command work through Terminal, if guided completely, so that I can make it working in my friends' laptops and PCs.

Waiting for your response, hope I will get it quickly :-)

In 10.04, the menu is hidden by default I think. But when you see the screen with the two icons at the bottom (if you see it...), you can press the "Escape" key, it should show the menu.

If you don't see this screen, you can try to press "escape" several time during the boot to see if it works.

If it's still not working, you can edit the "/etc/default/grub" file (using sudo, as you need to be an admin), find the right setting, update it (be careful not to mess with grub, check the grub doc online!), save the file, then run the "update-grub2" command I think to apply this change.

Dear Francois,

Thanks for the prompt response. As per you had told, I tried pressing several times with no output. I think it needs the third step you have mentioned. I will have a workout around this and inform soon.

Thank you, have a nice time!

see you again soon,
