No PPA for PlayOnLinux?

Asked by jakebiesinger

PlayOnLinux shows there's a new verison available (4.2.1), while the version from my software-sources (raring-ringtail) is 4.1.1. Nice to show that there's an updated version, but since you don't have a PPA for POL, the standard upgrade procedure isn't available.

Mint is not supported here or in any of the Ubuntu support channels. It's support is entirely separate from Ubuntu's. I suggest you post here :

Mint 15 is based on Raring Ringtail. If a launchpad PPA were available, it would benefit Mint users just as much as Ubuntu users. My problem is not Mint-specific at all.

It is still Mint related so is not supported here.

Oooooooookay. I've just installed Ubuntu raring-ringtail in a virtualbox and would like to use PlayOnLinux, but the verison is out of date. It would be great to have a PPA with the latest version available.

Is it supported now?

Why not use LinuxMint support. Mint is a modified Ubuntu. Ubuntu users, (Lanchpad) people may not be aware of the modifications made to Ubuntu to form Mint. Mint support will be aware of changes. They should be able to answer your questions.

Why would I ask on Mint? This is a request for a new PPA that would bring the most recent version of PlayOnLinux to *Ubuntu*. It has NOTHING to do with Mint. There are NO Mint-specific modifications. I'm sorry I even mentioned Mint.

My question again:

Is it possible to have a backport from saucy to raring, which has 4.2.1, or to have a custom PPA for PlayOnLinux that had the latest version?

If you report a bug. If you use Mint. The support is separate. Similarly Ubuntu is based on Debian. If you ask for Ubuntu support in Debian forums you will be pointed to Ubuntu support forums. Mint is based on Ubuntu but it is not supported in the Ubuntu support channels. If you want the support of the huge Ubuntu community then use Ubuntu, or keep using Mint and get support by fewer users.

As I mentioned, I have Ubuntu running on my machine now. Do you want me to open another question specific to Ubuntu? This is an Ubuntu bug. I'm asking for support for my Ubuntu installation, NOT my Mint installation.

Or does a Mint installation on *one* of my several machines preclude me from sending Ubuntu *any* bug reports? Note that I see the problem on my Ubuntu machine...

Besides, regarding your point, @parsnip, "upstream" Debian problems are reported to Debian. Ubuntu may release a workaround, but real bugs are reported upstream. If Mint users see *Ubuntu* bugs, they should certainly lodge them here, not on a Mint forum!

It seems like there's a lot of hate vs Mint users... is that really in the spirit of Ubuntu, "humanity towards others"?

Just keeping support where it should be. Again, you can report a bug to get the package upgraded

My mistake... I thought that "asking a question" on Launchpad was equivalent to reporting a bug. That was my original intent.
