Kubuntu 16.04 Kate shows QFileDialog. No remote files!

Asked by Marvin J.

Hi,

I have recently upgraded to Kubuntu 16.04 from 14.04.4 LTS. The new Kate looks nice but file dialog is broken. It shows the simple Qt File Dialog, not the KDE5 one. I can not enter "sftp://..." style remote URLs, which is a real show-stopper for me! When I open a remote location in dolphin and right-click -> open-with Kate, it opens a local copy instead, which does NOT get synced to the remote upon saving.

I since upgraded to plasma 5.23 from kubuntu/backports, but the problem persists. This is really stopping me from working productively. Can anyone give me a hint?

Thanks!!!

Well, so nobody seems to know or care? The problem is still there. All updates installed. Like this KDE5 is not a working environment for me anymore. Can I go back to KDE4?

I stumbled upon this problem too on my home pc. I was the Kubuntu PPA and experienced this problem. I downgraded to the non PPA KDE software... That proved to be tricky.

After installing the kio-extras kio-extras-data and kate, I'm running:

- Kate 15.12.3
- KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
- Qt 5.5.1 (built against 5.5.1)

It still opens the same dialogue for as before and hence no sftp.
