Need a manual for pixman

Hey,

Does anyone recommends any text for understanding pixman?

I am having a hard time understanding how to use it and it's the most recommended library for drawing pixels (like to writing a rasterizer).

It's official website states "There is currently no documentation besides the source code itself" but if someone has anything written on it I would gladly read it.

My use case is to replace Allegro 4 bitmaps with Pixman for better support accross platforms.

I found what you described on pixman.com I did not find any documentation either only the source code.
All though "Questions about using pixman are welcome on the mailing list as well as on the #cairo IRC channel on FreeNode. "

I am sure it will be completely different than pixman.
Ubuntu also has Gimp https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TheGIMP
