It is only a logitech webcam with a built in microphone. It used to work fine in previous versions but I did have to download some library replacement files (cannot remember which) to make it run in Skype as it was already running for the standard video app and mail app. Now it does not seem to be working at all. No picture no sound.

If you run cheese, do you see yourself?

Don't test things with Skype, it is proprietary garbage and VERY often shows things that work to not work.

wow thanks for quick response.
Have installed cheese (and had my lunch) and it shows the picture from my webcam well.
Skype does no sound or video and does not allow me any choice of devices other than the system stuff.
I need to be able to choose the external device.

Grey cells are awakening. I think the stuff I downloaded that fixed this problem last time was something to do with v6lib. It came from outside canonical and replaced library files with a bug inside.

It all came back and the answer is v4 lib not v6.
