If you open the file in pitivi is there not an option to convert or render to avi?

No, there isn't an option to convert or render to avi.

Wait, let me correct myself; I found the "Render Project" option, but I'm not too sure what i should do next.

Hi, take a look at http://www.pitivi.org/manual/rendering.html and FAQ #1417.
FAQ #1417: “What are the recommended rendering settings to export to YouTube?”.

I've read both of those documents. I'm attempting to render the file, but the render load bar isn't loading. Does it take awhile, or has an error occurred?

I'm suspecting you're using an old version of pitivi, could you try with version 0.14?

And if the problem still occurs, you should file a separate bug report rather than a question so that this can be investigated through the proper channels.
