Rotating .avi clips

I have a nikon coolpix s200 and it makes rather nice short movies in .avi format. In order to edit them I need to rotate them. Any ideas how to do this? Used to be easy in windoz but I am 100% ubuntu 10.4 and no longer have windoz on the machine.

You could use effects to rotate in pitivi, but that's only available in the development version, not yet available to a stable pitivi version. In the meantime, you could use transmageddon (http://www.linuxrising.org) to rotate and convert easily.
