having trouble getting video to fit the screen

I would like to remove the black bands that come out in the rendered video because I can't get the video to fit the dimensions of the screen. I tried changing the aspect ratio, but that doesn't seem to help.,

Hi, you need to set the resolution to correctly match the one of your clips, in the Project Settings dialog.

Unless you're telling me your input video had black bands already, which is something you could remove with an effect in pitivi git...
