Install video camcorder

Asked by Melton Carr

How do i install my sony camcorder with Ubuntu? With MS XP i would just plug in my camcorder via usb and laptop recognized new hardware. With Ubuntu I don't see computer recognizing my camcorder at all. PITIVI can't see my camcorder or video files.

Pitivi doesn't yet handle any kind of camcorder, so it is normal that it doesn't "see" it.

If your camcorder is recognized as a USB mass storage device, then just use the normal file manager to get the files from it. Otherwise, maybe try kino or kdenlive, but I'd be surprised that they work with USB camcorders (kino was made for DV, afaik.).

Can you help with this problem?
