i don't think it really matters. you can use .mpg or .avi. youtube will convert it to .flv

My problem is that there are so many options to choose from, and I cant seem to get any of them to work. Does anyone have one that they use?

I suggest container = matroska, video = H.264 (x264enc), audio = AAC. You'll need a powerful computer to encode H.264 though.

When uploading to youtube once in your account there is a button to upload. You do not need any special tools or programs to upload to youtube.
