Hi :)

Do you use a subtitle editor and use a separate ".srt" file for subtitles? I think embedded subtitles are likely to make a movie a LOT heavier and are more difficult for end-users to deal with any issues whereas a separate .srt offers people more flexibility.

My favourite subtitle editor is "gaupol" because you can play the movie & get the timing absolutley right. Also it can easily handle multiple fiels at the same time :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

External .srt file is ideal for video upload to youtube where the site is clever enough to display the correct subtitle file.
For other video platforms without subtitle support it may be better to render the subtitle into the video itself.

I'm looking myself for a easy-to-use solution.

A complicated solution can be found here:

@Tom: Thanks for the link to "gaupol", have to check this out !.

For some hand-help video players.. Subtitles need to be embedded in video..
As they do not have capability to read extra text based sub-title stream from .srt file..

But i think.. PiTiVi currently does not support embedding subtitles in Video..
Try mencoder, spumux instead..
