can't connect on yahoo using pidgin

Asked by lane

I've tried changing the server on yahoo and going through updates, however I still am unable to connect to my yahoo account via pidgin. Are there any new servers I should be using? Where do I find these? Any other possibilities?

Theres gyache as well. Yahoo change their server names like most people change their socks. You should websearch round to see what servers people have had success with. If you then edit your yahoo account in pidgin and click the advanced tab, you can specify the new server.

You should also make sure you are using the latest pidgin by running this repo:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add these 2 lines:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

Save the new file and close gedit, then run:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8

Then run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Then rerun pidgin
