Cant get pidgin to work!

Where did you look? It's under Buddies > Add Buddy in the menu, also accessible via Ctrl-B.

Well I did that but the buddie will not add to the list

Please go to Accounts:Manage Accounts, and add at least one account that you already use and know to be working in other chat software. Once you have added that, and logged in, you should be able to add buddies.
