ICQ Contacts are shown only as their numbers

Asked by H

After successfully adding my icq-Account in gAIM, only the icq-numbers of my contacts are shown. How can I get gAIM to show my the Alias names without manually changing them one after another?

Thanks for your question.

If you look at http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/150, you'll recognize that Piding *should* use the remote aliases. But as the ICQ protocoll is just reverse engineered, you'll always experience problems with it when using alternative clients.

You might want to file a bug report, but I guess you won't have a lot of success with it. The better idea would be to convince your buddys to use the XMPP (Jabber) protocol, which is an open standard.

There quite a few "big players" supporting the Jabber protocol, I think Google is one of the biggest one (http://talk.google.com) and might be a good choice if your buddies use Windows.

I'm quite sorry that I'm unable to provide you a better answer.

Hi!

I have pidgin and have had the same problem (only icq-numbers were shown).
To solve this do:
"Tools" -> "Plug-ins" -> "Buddy List Options" -> "Configure Plug-in" -> unchek "Show email addresses for all the buddies"

Hope this helps ;)

Can you help with this problem?
