I know there some troubles with yahoo accounts because yahoo recently made some changes. For ex. with pidgin 2.5.2 you can't even login if not with a trick.

<b>May be</b> this is related to yahoo changes too.

You should use a later version (where the problems have been fixed) by adding this repository
