con audio al massimo si sente la convesazione dei film ad una tonalità insufficiente.

prova ad installare gnome alsa mixer e comodamente da interfaccia grafica a controllare che la barra del volume sia al massimo.

ma l'audio è basso solo per i film o con tutto? perchè magari il problema può stare o nel player o nel film stesso.
