pidgin wont open

downloaded pidgin but i don't have an icon or anywhere to see it on my desktop It loaded because it is in my files how do i get it to appear on my toolbar so i can go straight to the chat line

how have you installed it?how do you obtained it?what OS are you using,if you are using ubuntu it will be installed by default.Otherwise,you can install via add/remove programs manager.It is not advised to separately download and install from other sources as you will miss updates for it.

yes it works but only if someone sends me a message first. if i try to open it i just get all the files and i still don't have the icon on the toolbar sort of stumped on this one. yes it is loaded and im sure it went to default and now i do have it on my dsektop but know idea how to proceed next . P.sI'im on ubuntu 8.4 firefox linux using a dell computer. I did have it before but i had my hard drive wiped clean and the system reloaded. everything else is working fine
