No sound in pidgin

Asked by steveie85

I have Ubuntu 8.10 and I have no sound in Pidgin. I have read all the others posts and tried everything and it does not work. I had sound yesterday and for a little bit today and then it just stopped. I have tried clicking on test and I get the beep I got before. I also have sound in Ubuntu, like if I play music I can hear it. Any help is appreciated.

Open Pidgin:

1 In Pidgin, select Preferences from the Tools menu (or press Ctrl+P)
2 Click on the Sounds tab
3 In the Method drop down list, select Command
4 In the Sound command text box, enter the following: aplay %s
5 Select an event with an assigned sound from the Sound Events list
6 Click the Test button. You should now hear the notification sound
7 Click the Close button

Hope this helps

I tried that. However I found out that all my sound had went, not just on Pidgin. So I tried a fix on the Ubuntu support page, and it deleted something and I didn't see it do it and it had a warning but I got impaitent, so I will have to try and tell it to do something to fix it. Thanks for the help though.

Pidgin isn't the problem.

I linked a new bug I created as this reconfiguration shouldn't be necessary.
