Segmentation fault when launching pidgin

Asked by Keno

Trying to run pidgin 1:2.5.0-0ubuntu2~hardy1 running Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron released on 4/08

Every time it is launched a segmentation fault is the result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect you're seeing a bug in parsing the GNOME proxy settings that
is fixed in 2.5.2.

I have been working with keno on this issue.

After completely removing libpurple and pidgin from the system (via synaptic) and compiling pidgin 2.5.2 from source, pidgin is now able to open without seg faults.

Unfortunately there was not an update to 2.5.2 yet in the repos, and forcing an earlier version (2.4.1) resulted in seg faults as well.

Cheers.
