getting data from windows hard disk

Asked by Simon

I've done something really silly. I've put Ubuntu on my disk successfully but to start with it wouldn't let me make two partions I had windows Vista on but decided to just put Ubuntu on one partion forgetting all about my data in windows. Is there any way I can read the hard disk to get my photos back? I don't care about windows as I am going to learn all about this operating system and if I wanted to I could reinstall it. so if anyone could help me I would be very grateful. By the way I am a complete novice to unix but am quite computer literate.

If you've formatted the drive, the odds of getting your data back are extremely thin. If it's really important to you, STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY. Then contact a data recovery company where you can send your hard drive. It'll cost you a pile of money and they *might* be able to help you. In any case, though, this is not a Pidgin-related question.

As for your Pidgin question... if it's telling you that your account is suspended, I'd check with your service provider (who is, unless there's a bug in Pidgin, returning that error) to see why your account is suspended.
