Pidgin not connecting

Asked by New to ubuntu

Hi: I am very new to this --as the name suggests-- so pardon any errors in terminology or general ignorance. I am using Hardy Heron and my Pidgin instant messenger stopped working. It gives me the message: "Could not establish a connection with the server. Connection timed out". My internet connection is fine though. What could the problem be? Any help is greatly appreciated.

M$ is making changes in the M$N Protocol, then you need to update your
system, to the last updates (8.04.1) and it works.

Another way is use emesene if you want to try, just Open a Terminal Window
in Applications > Accesories > Terminal

And then type:

sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install emesene && sudo aptitude
safe-upgrade

With this command will Update your repositories, then install the emesene
and finally upgrade your system.

You can run emesene in Application > Internet > emesene

Enjoin it!

Yes. I made some changes in my video/dvd configurations but I can't imagine what that would have to do with it.
