Is this #ubuntu the help channel?..I have no sound...
Im new to this and dont know how to use a pidgin. I need to know why there is no sound coming from my computer. before I had ubuntu I had Vista and my sound worked but since I got ubuntu I have had no sound....HELP?

edit the file /etc/modules
sudo gedit /etc/modules
and add this option
snd-hda-intel model=auto
save and restart the pc I think should works

First, I will actually check with the speaker icon and make sure nothing is muted.
Or open the terminal and run
alsamixer
and make sure everything is turn on there too...

Nothing is muted, I ran alsamixer and everythings at 100....

Just enter "sudo gedit /etc/modules" inthe same terminal windows as you did with "lspci".

First i suggest you to be sure your system is fully upgraded, to check:
open a Terminal from the menu Applications-
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get clean all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean all
sudo apt-get autoremove
to reboot your pc
sudo reboot
give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Audio trouble with Ubuntu 8.04 some common checks

-- Please try to watch what audio cards are detected on your system please type:
asoundconf list
if more than one sound cards is detected by your system to set the default soundcard
asoundconf set-default-card PARAMETER
change PARAMETER with the name of a one detected sound card

mv .asoundrc .asoundrc_old
mv .asoundrc.
sudo mv /etc/asound.conf /etc/asound.

If you microphone seems don't record your voice please open a terminal and type
alsamixer
and press tab to switch in view to [Capture] section, and then pressing space on mic and mic boost aid
