Sound and notification problems

I'm running Pidgin, and have sounds enabled and the general sound is not muted, but I don't get any sounds when I receive messages. Is there any way to set the window to flash in the taskbar when I receive a message, so I won't sit there accidentally ignoring someone?

i believe it comes build with pidgin if you're using Linux. If you're using Windows you should look at the windows-specific plugin (can't remember its name, but it's installed automaticly).
You'll find one of the two in Tools >> Plugins (or by pressing ctrl-u)
