ICQ over pidgin broken

Asked by spacefight

I get an error trying to connect my icq account: "the client version you're using is too old, please update on http://pidgin.im". I have pidgin installed on Ubuntu 7.10, the version I have obtained via synaptic is 2.2.1. The pidgin.im site is not really available at the moment and no deb packages are available on the sourceforge dl page.

There is a bug opened in bugs.launchpad.net which covers this question. Will close it therefore.
