Asked by Kuch

HI ...
i recently installed ubuntu 8.04.. I got to somehow learn how to use pidgin IM.. It connects me to my hotmail and yahoo messenger but when i try connecting it to gtalk, it says aunthentication failed. Really dont know the reason for this..

Protocol used is GOogle Talk, Screen name is chainlover84, password is ******* (this password is right as i use to use it in windows too, but over here it says authentication failed, something like it).. and the protocol directly jumps to XMPP...not sure y>???, domain is gmail.com and Resource is HOME.

really dont know where the error lies ...any guidance will be helpful..thank you

Hello kuch

Here are the configuration details
# Protocol: XMPP
# Screen Name: your Google Talk username (without any @ symbol or domain).
# Server: Enter a server value depending on your type of account:

    * Gmail users should enter gmail.com
    * Google Mail users (<email address hidden>) should enter googlemail.com
    * If you're signing in with a Google Account that's not linked to any Google email, enter gmail.com

# Password: I suggest leaving this field blank for increased security, but if you'd like to sign in automatically, enter your password
# Local Alias: leave this field blank or give your nick name to be displayed while chatting
# Remember password: check the box if you'd like Pidgin to remember your password (you won't be prompted to enter it each time you sign in, if you select this option)
# New mail notifications: check the box if you'd like Pidgin to notify you of unread email in your inbox.

then click on save to save your account

Don't forget to check the "Enabled" option if you want to get connected now, After a few seconds, your Gtalk buddies should be added to your buddy list in Pidgin :)

Regards

Bhavani Shankar.
