Pidgin seems to be installed, but how do I launch it?

Asked by mark

I am using a freshly installed copy of Ubuntu 12.10 and would like to run Pidgin. When I go to the software center and click "installed programs" it shows up. However, I can't figure out how to launch it or put it on the launcher bar.

Please help.

Thanks
Mark

You are probably using Unity,so click on dash ( first from above on your launcher bar) and then type Pidgin and you will see icon.By clicking on icon start app and you will see it in launcher bar.Right click on icon and select lock on launcher ( if I remember correctly).

If you installed Ubuntu and not one of its variants such as Kubuntu or Lubuntu then its almost certain you are using Unity. Its the default and you while its possible to change it you would know if you had.

Take a look at the picture in post #4 if you are not sure it should look similar to that.

It will be hiding in the dash somewhere but the easiest way to find it is click the top icon of the column down the left had side and in the search box start typing. "pidgin" without the quotes. The icon will appear before you finish typing: I get as far as typing "p"

Click on the icon to run. It will then appear in the column of icons on the left. If you want it to stay there right click and select "Lock to Launcher"

Can you help with this problem?
