I get a new msg window every time I hit "h"

Asked by Renata Hanotova

Hallo,
I guess I touched something or hit by accident some letter combination on my keyboard and suddenly every time I write a letter "h" in any word in the conversation window I get a popup window "new instant message". It is very annoying and I don't know how to get rid of it. This is happening only in Pidgin. Please advice, thanks

Hallo marcobra,

It was the first thing I did to restart the PC, but the problems still occurs. In the conversation window under the menu conversation is mentioned indeed a shortcut H to open a new message window, but it cannot be the meaning to open it whenever I actually hit the letter. Can I change that shortcut somehow to "Ctrl+H" e.g.?
Or just reinstall Pidgin?
Thanks

Hi,
I found the solution ... it is very simple ... but time consuming for new users of Ubuntu to find it!!
As I supposed I changed the shortcut in Pidgin. Unfortunately you can change it just like that without really willing to do it.
So ... open a conversation window in Pidgin, click on "conversation", in the drop down menu go to "new instant message", do not click it, just keep the mouse cursor on it so that the line turns blue (selected) ... if you now hit whatever combination or character on your keyboard, this will become your new shortcut!
Cheers
