changing/removing shortcut keys

Asked by neotsn

My cat got on my computer last night while I was asleep, and this morning I opened a chat/im window (after closing all the ones he had opened) and upon trying to use the backspace, I notice that it is associated to Dis/Enabling Logging in the conversation.

I was wondering how I can disable/change that shortcut key (as you can imagine it's not very efficient to work without a backspace button). Any tips?

I have looked through all the preferences that I can find, and have yet to locate anything related. I've also gone searching for any config files (though not changing anything yet), and have found nothing helpful as well.

Thanks,
Chris

Sweet, this is a neat feature that I was unaware of.

I found the solution on the ticket here: http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/2749

Hold the mouse over the menu item that you want to remap the shortcut key for, and then press the key sequence.

In my instance, I opened a chat, opened the Options menu, highlighted Enable Logging with my cursor, and pressed CTRL + L to remap that feature to that key combo.

Hope this helps someone else.

I have a similar problem. By mistake I set "y" key to open new instant message and now every time i want to press "y" in the message box the new instant message box opens. I remaped the this feature to ctrl+L and it is in the menu bar but it doesn't help. The "y" key is still connected to the new instant message box.

Wow, thanks a lot! They should really make a feature like this optional because while it's cool and all, its also very easy to do and not know how to revert.
