doubled hotmail contacts

i'm new to linux and just installed ubuntu a couple days ago, using both windows xp and ubuntu on my laptop. works pretty well except that after configuring pidgin it suddenly shows my hotmail contacts twice (in two groups, each named buddys). i used pidgin before with xp.

I think there is a divergence in the way Pidgin treats foreign characters in group names between windows and linux versions. Do you have any groups with foreign characters? Are the doubled contacts inside this group? Try moving all contacts to another group, one that does not have foreign characters.

no, but one group called "buddies" and one i manually changed to "hotmail". but i think i got it solved, just transfered all the contacts from "buddies" to "hotmail" and then deleted the first group. the contacts didnt appear twice in "hotmail" - so i guess this is it :) thanks!
