pidgin package

issue with pidgin

I tried to use pidgin but it wont work. I can't send or get messages. it also says I have zero buddies when I added them on. I understand it allows you to talk to people on different messengers, but I'm not sure how that works either. I'm new to Ubuntu and all these new programs are very confusing. i've always used windows. I called the tech support but they weren't much help.

You could try closing pidgin fully then running:

mv ~/.purple ~/.purple_old

Then rerunning the app. You can also try:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pidgin-developers/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Then rerun the app.
