How to use a pidgin-sipe account in empathy in 12.10

Asked by Jan Evert van Grootheest

In the 12.10 prerelease (well, ~two weeks to go) I can't figure out how to add an account using the sipe protocol from pidgin-sipe. It works just fine in pidgin so the only problem is how do I add it in empathy?

I can't find the sipe protocol in the online accounts settings to add. Nor can I find how to import the account from pidgin.

Thanks.

Are there any bugs reported?

Well, I couldn't find any about sipe not working.
As a first time user of empathy I have no idea where to look to figure out why it doesn't work and it doesn't work by itself. Otherwise I would have created a bug myself. But at the moment I don't even know whether it is bug or me not knowing what to do.

I fail to understand why the question was moved to pidgin-sipe, since that seems to work just fine. The question is how to add a sipe account in empathy.

I have been looking online about this as well. I did find out that you could manually enter an account using empathy-accounts, but there is no longer any import functionality that I can find to import from Pidgin.

The reason this is important is that it is REALLY hard to get pidgin-sipe working in the first place. Any help that can be had to grab config from pidgin would be helpful.

OK, I got import to work by:

     $ rm -r ~/.config/Empathy ~/.config/libaccounts-glib
     $ sudo reboot

Then... after reboot, NOT opening Empathy, but...

     $ empathy-accounts

And this brought up the option to import.

Could use a better method... Could use a method to force importing accounts WITHOUT such a drastic effort of deleting all accounts.
